Ringnecks can be great pets. They are known for the following qualities:
- about 16 inches from the head to tail
- weigh between 110 to 140 gms.
- males get a ring around their neck at 2 to 3 years of age
- their chest feathers are like cut velvet
- have a fun loving attitude - always into something
- can amuse themselves if given lots of toys
- need to be handled regularly or they lose their tameness
- a good family pet because they tend to share themselves willing with everyone
who interacts with it.
- love a bath (ie. splash in a dish of water, or play under a light spray
in the kitchen sink)
- are good eaters and are usually not picky
- use pellets as their main food
- important also provide fruits and veggies, whole grain breads, pasta and
rice
- seeds make good rewards when training because they eat quickly
- important training to practice "step up" on a regular basis
- "step up" will probably be its first words
- have the capability to speak clearly and may develop a large vocabulary
